Flashdance - National Tour

The pop culture phenomenon is now live on stage!

What a Feeling! Jillian Mueller Explains Why Flashdance Like Her Life Story

The national tour of Flashdance will spin into Procter & Gamble Hall at the Aronoff Center for the Arts on October 29, telling the story of a young Pittsburgh woman who dreams of becoming a dancer. Jillian Mueller, who stars as Alex Owens, performs jaw-dropping dance sequences back to back in the new musical, based on the 1983 film. The daunting task is one Mueller has been training for her whole life.

“I was a dance competition kid growing up, so I was used to training at a dance studio for over 20 hours a week,” Mueller says, referencing her intensive training with Flashdance director/choreographer Sergio Trujillo. “This show makes me feel like I’m going back to my competition kid roots—lots of splits, leaps and quadruple turns.”

Mueller remembers one particular performance that made her realize her years of hard work had paid off. “I had some family come see the show and they came up to me afterward with tears in their eyes and said, ‘This is your story.’ I truly feel that way. Alex’s moment at the very end of the show was my moment when I was cast in Flashdance. I feel like I get to share my life story every night on stage.”

Tearing up the stage with Mueller is Corey Mach as Nick Hurley, Gina Claire Mason as Gloria, Alison Ewing as Tess, DeQuina Moore as Kiki, and David R. Gordon as Jimmy. Flashdance, which features the songs “Flashdance…What A Feeling” and “Maniac” will play Cincinnati through November 10.
