Win tickets to the opening night of 'Matilda The Musical' at the Aronoff Center!

In Matilda The Musical, headed to the Aronoff Center from April 4 through 16, the title character loves to read and discovers fantastic new worlds through books. To celebrate Matilda's love of reading, and her legendary creator Roald Dahl, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, in partnership with Broadway in Cincinnati, is issuing the “Matilda Reading Challenge” to young readers in Greater Cincinnati.

Kids wanting to participate simply have to read three or more books by Roald Dahl between January 16 and March 17, then have their reading “passport” signed by a parent or teacher. One lucky reader will win a family four-pack of tickets to the opening night of Matilda The Musical on April 4 at the Aronoff Center, a copy of the book Matilda and gift cards from Busken Bakery and Joseph-Beth Booksellers. Ten runners-up will win a book signed by the lead actress in the musical.

Matilda The Musical is a tribute to those who love books, and we are proud to work with the Library to create a fun reading challenge,” said Genevieve Holt, general manager of Broadway in Cincinnati. "We hope this initiative encourages young readers in Greater Cincinnati to pick up a few new books by the delightful Roald Dahl, then come to see Matilda on stage at the Aronoff Center."

Passports are available at all 41 library locations, the Aronoff Center ticket office or online. Completed passports dropped off at any library location before March 17 will be entered to win the prize pack.

“We invite all children to discover the words and worlds of Roald Dahl with this reading challenge,” said Kimber L. Fender, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library.

Winner of 70 international awards including four Tony Awards and a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards, including Best Musical, Matilda The Musical is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox). It is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her destiny.
